Glass Study Group - October 8, 2003
In
anticipation of Halloween, the Glass Study Group chose an orange and black theme
for the October meeting. Over 80 pieces of glass of diverse colors and forms were
shared. Those few here illustrated include a signed Galle cameo vase in orange
over yellow, a cream & sugar by Hazel Atlas in the Ovide line with black decoration
on a white milk glass body, an orange Epic duck by Viking and a black basket weave
open edge plate by Fenton circa 1930's. There is an orange Viking mushroom (1960-70s),
a hobnail two part orange fairy light marked Fenton (early 1970s), two candlesticks
and a large console bowl in Fostoria's "Heritage" pattern in the bittersweet
color, a covered candy dish in Fenton's "Valencia" pattern, a small
black blown and crimped vase from Weston, and in the front is a clear with black
mug with applied threading by Steuben. The remaining objects in the right back
are an ebony (black) nude stem in the statuesque line by Cambridge, a pair of
black satin candlesticks decorated with gold by US Glass and a cigarette urn with
lid in Fenton's "Valencia" pattern.
